One man has died following a traffic crash involving a moped last night (November 14) in Hickory.

The accident occurred at about 10 p.m. Tuesday as a Tesla driven by a 22-year-old Connelly Springs man was traveling south on N.C. Highway 127 near South Center Street when the driver of a moped attempted to cross the highway and collided with the Tesla. The moped was driven by 55-year-old Billy Gene Starnes of Hickory.

Catawba County E.M.S. responded. Mr. Starnes was pronounced deceased at the scene.
