59-year-old Vernon Eric McLane of 3rd Avenue Place S.E. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police early Sunday morning (October 22) on one felony count of first-degree kidnapping and misdemeanor counts of assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a female. McLane was taken into custody without incident just after 1 a.m. Sunday at a different address on 3rd Avenue Place S.E. According to H.P.D.’s arrest report, he was in possession of a lethal cutting instrument at the time of his arrest.

McLane was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility where he was initially held without bond. Bond has since been set at $25,000. A first appearance in District Court was scheduled Monday (October 23). McLane’s next court date was set for November 13 in Newton.
