42-year-old Austin Rusty Setzer of Hickory was arrested Tuesday (December 21) by Alexander County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of possession of fentanyl and possession of methamphetamine.
He was taken into custody by Alexander County Sheriff’s Deputies and charged with the drug offenses. Previous charges filed against Setzer in Alexander County include felony counts of possession of schedule I controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for controlled substance, and possession of a firearm by a felon along with misdemeanor counts of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Setzer has charges pending against him in Caldwell County as well. He’s charged there with felony counts of first-degree arson, breaking & entering, possession of a firearm by a felon, and probation violation. Setzer is also charged with misdemeanor larceny in Iredell County.
According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Austin Rusty Setzer has multiple convictions dating back to 2001 in Alexander, Caldwell, Catawba and Iredell Counties. He’s been convicted on felony and misdemeanor charges. His most recent conviction was in 2019 in Catawba County for felony possession of schedule II controlled substance.
Following Tuesday’s arrest, Setzer was jailed in the Alexander County Detention Center under $100,000 secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (December 21). His next court date is scheduled for January 8 in both Alexander and Caldwell Counties.[Story courtesy of Rick Gilbert, WACB]
