57-year-old Jimmy Darin Starr of Hickory was arrested Friday (March 10) by Alexander County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with two felony counts of indecent liberties with a child and one felony count of first-degree statutory sex offense against a victim 13, 14, or 15-years-old by a suspect six years or more older.

Starr is on the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry as a result of a 1993 conviction in Catawba County for felony indecent liberties with a minor. The crime was committed in June, 1991. Starr received three years in prison and was required to register as a sex offender with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

The only other conviction listed in North Carolina for Starr is felony assault on a handicapped person in Alexander County in May, 2005. The crime was committed in May, 2004. He served 19 months in jail following that conviction.

Following Friday’s arrest, Starr was placed in the Alexander County Detention Center under $550,000 secured bond. A District Court appearance was scheduled today (March 13) in Taylorsville.
