Hickory Man Charged With Failing To Register As Sex Offender, Parole Violation

52-year-old Paul Edward Ikard, Jr. of 17th Street SW in Hickory was arrested today (March 29) on charges filed by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and Probation & Parole. He’s charged by the Sheriff’s Office with interfere with an electronic monitoring device, failure to register as a sex offender, failure to report a new address as a sex offender, flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, identity theft, resisting a public officer, and reckless driving to endanger. Probation & Parole charged Ikard with parole violation.

He’s on the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry as a result of convictions in Catawba County in 2003 for indecent liberties with a minor and Burke County in 2007 for second-degree rape. Following today’s arrest, Ikard was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $10,000 bond. District Court dates are scheduled for Thursday (March 30) and next Monday (April 3).
