43-year-old Clifford Brian Mauldin of Hickory was arrested August 19 by McDowell County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and first-degree burglary.

On August 19, deputies responded to an Old Fort residence after receiving a report that an assault had occurred. Upon arrival, police saw signs of forced entry and injuries to two victims. The victims told deputies that the male suspect, Mauldin, had forced his way into the residence which led to a physical altercation.

Mauldin fled the scene before deputies arrived. He was arrested a short time later by officers from Hickory Police Department. Mauldin was issued a $175,000 secured bond following his arrest. He’s scheduled to appear in District Court in McDowell County September 11.
