Hickory Man Arrested on Warrant from U.S. Marshals
38-year-old Anwar Vanchass Powell of 3rd Street S.E. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police last Saturday (July 29) on an outstanding felony warrant. The warrant was issued by the U.S. Marshals Service for a probation violation in connection with a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Powell had previously been arrested by Hickory Police on July 2 on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (two counts), and discharging a firearm in the city limits.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident at about 11:20 Saturday morning at a residential address on 2nd Street S.E. in Hickory. Powell was placed in the Catawba County Detention Facility where he is being held without bond. An appearance in District Court was scheduled this past Monday (July 31) in Newton with a Superior Court date on the firearms charge coming up on August 21.
