App State women’s soccer signee Izzi Wood (Hickory, N.C./Hickory High School) was honored by United Soccer Coaches as a member of the Scholar All-American and All-Region team.
The Hickory, N.C., native posted a solid 3.75 GPA, while she was one of 121 student-athletes from across the country, featuring 69 girls and 52 boys.
Before the season was canceled due to COVID-19, Wood was dominating her senior season with 12 goals and four assists in four matches at Hickory High School. She adds the prestigious academic honor to an already long list of awards from her high school career.
In her junior season, Wood was named to the US Soccer Coaches All-Mid Atlantic Region squad. She was recognized as the 4A/3A Northwestern Conference Player of the Year after being the top scorer in the North Carolina 3A with a whopping 53 goals and 14 assists, which was top 10 in the country. The staggering numbers led to her 2019 Charlotte Observer All-First Team selection and Offensive Player of the Year award.
Wood signed with 10 other freshmen that made up the signing class, giving the Black and Gold 11 newcomers for the 2020 campaign.
