Hickory FC Suffers First Loss in Southeast Conference Play

Hickory FC fell to Charlottetowne Hops 4-2 at Moretz Stadium on Wednesday evening. The loss is the first for the squad in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) Southeast Conference play.

Charlottetowne struck first with a goal in the 10th minute and another goal in the 38th minute to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead. However, Hickory FC settled down and started finding more opportunities at the net late in the first half.

Hickory scored their first goal in the 39th minute when Carles Montoliu rocketed a shot past the Charlottetown Hops keeper. Hickory FC kept the pressure up and in the start of stoppage time for the first half, Diego Fernandez bicycle kicked a shot from the right side of the net to get the crowd buzzing with a 2-2 tie at the half.

The second half proved to be much more physical. Only one yellow card was issued in the first half. Five additional yellow’s were issued in the second half, with all but one being shown to Charlottetowne.

Charlottetowne Hops scored in the 72nd minute and again in the 76th minute to pull away for the win.

Hickory FC is 5-1-1 with 16 points in the Southeast Conference standings and currently still find themselves on top. They will play again Saturday against the current second place team, Appalachian FC. Game time is set for 7pm.
