Hickory FC Picks Up Five Goal Win Over Port City FC

Hickory FC scored four goals in the first half en route to a 6-1 win over Port City FC at Moretz Stadium on Saturday night.

Hickory jumped out to an early lead in the 12th minute. On a corner kick, the ball was initially hit of the chest of a Port City FC player, but bounced towards the goal and Tomas Wilson knocked it into the right corner of the net.

Hickory FC scored again in the 27th minute. On a free kick 24 yards out by Edvin Grolimund shot it towards the goal, the glanced off a Port City player and went in for an own goal, as Hickory jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

Hickory would score two more goals, both within six minutes apart, and both by Diego Fernandez. In the 30th minute, Maxime Wester, an all-conference player from Carson-Newman crossed the ball to his left to Fernandez, a Mars Hill player, that he easily redirected over the fallen Port City FC goaltender for the third goal of the game.

The South Atlantic Conference duo, Wester and Fernandez, hooked up again for the fourth goal. Running down the right side again, Wester crossed the ball to his left and slightly behind him when Fernandez struck it at top of the 18 yard box into the bottom left of the goal.

In the 72nd inning, Hickory’s Bjarne Renner picked out John Osadolor streaking down the center of the field. Renner crossed it to the Spaniard who deftly redirected it into the right hand side of the goal.

Port City would score in the 88th minute, but Hickory put the goal differential back to five with another Osadolor goal. Crossing into the middle with the ball, Osadolor fired it some 10 yards out for the final goal of the contest.

Hickory still sits atop the Southeast Division of the National Premiere Soccer League standings with 16 points. They have five wins, no losses, and one tie. Hickory will play again on Wednesday against Charlottetowne Hops in Moretz Stadium at 7pm.
