Hickory FC goes to 2-2 Draw Against Port City FC

After Port City FC scored what looked to be the game winning goal in the 89th minute, Hickory FC rallied and Bunker Hill grad Jorge Jimenez scored an equalizer in stoppage time as Hickory FC salvaged a 2-2 tie at home in Moretz Stadium Saturday night.

Hickory FC scored the game’s first goal in the 22nd minute. After a corner kick, several Hickory players jumped in the box, and it was David Guevara who headed it in to the top left corner of the net for the early advantage.

Port City would equalize with a goal in the 38th minute for a 1-1 halftime score.

Despite Hickory FC controlling possession for most of the contest, Port City found the back of the net in the 89th minute after a free kick was headed in after a questionable yellow card was issued to Guevara who had slide tackled the ball away from a Port City striker 40 yards out of the goal.

But with six minutes of stoppage time Hickory FC found the game tying goal from the local product in Jimenez, who had been substituted on in the second half. A cross from the right side ping ponged on to the foot of Jimenez who fired directly down the middle 10 yards out to tie the game up in the 92nd minute.

Hickory FC is now 3-0-1 in the National Premier Soccer League’s Southeast Division. They are on top of the standings with 10 points. Hickory FC’s next match is against Greenville United at home on Saturday at 7pm.
