Hickory FC Advances to Championship Game

Hickory FC scored two first half goals and played solid defense in the second half to defeat Apotheos FC in the semifinal round of the Southeast Division of the National Premier Soccer League playoffs, 2-1.

Tomas Pollacchi scored the first goal early in the contest to set the pace. Ivan Rubio would score the game winner with a neat head flick off a throw in and Hickory had a 2-0 lead at the halftime break.

Apotheos would be issued a red card late in the first half, and play a man down the rest of the way. However, they were able to convert on a penalty kick with about 10 minutes remaining in the game, but would be unable to find the equalizer.

With the win, Hickory FC advances to the championship. They will face Appalachian FC who won 2-0 in overtime over Charlottetown Hops FC. The championship game will be held in Boone on Saturday at 7pm.
