Hickory Crawdads Winning Streak Hits Double Digits

The Hickory Crawdads stayed red-hot as their win streak hit 10 games on Friday night, their longest streak since 2014, as they won 5-2 over the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

The Crawdads got off to a quick start, scoring four in the first. Alejandro Osuna and Keyber Rodriguez led off the inning with singles. Maximo Acosta picked up the third straight hit to get the Crawdads on the board, but Rodriguez was out at second on a throw by the centerfielder. Abimelec Ortiz extended his hit streak to 14 games with his third homer of the week to make it 3-0. Cody Freeman added on with a solo homerun of his own to cap off the scoring.

Greensboro got their only runs of the game across in the second inning as they knocked a two-run homerun.

The ‘Dads added on a run in the seventh as Keyber Rodriguez singled and stole two bases to reach third before a single by Ortiz brought him in to make it 5-2.

Winston Santos started for the ‘Dads, going 6.2 innings and allowing just one hit and three walks while giving up two. Seth Clark retired the only two batters he faced before Spencer Mraz came in sit the last five batters down in order.

With the series victory secured, the ‘Dads will take on the Greensboro Grasshoppers again Saturday night at 7pm for Beach Night. The first 1,000 fans will receive a beach shirt courtesy of Black Tie Transportation. It is also Army National Guard Night and recruits will be sworn-in on the field before the game.
