Hickory Crawdads Win In Extra Innings at Greensboro

The Hickory Crawdads opened up their road trip against the Greensboro Grasshoppers with a 5-4 win in 10 innings Tuesday night.

Greensboro scored first with a solo home run in the second inning off of Crawdads starter Mitch Bratt. However, the Crawdads responded with a home run of their own in the fourth inning. With one out, Benjamin Blackwell doubled. One out later, Yosy Galan homered for the second time this season, giving Hickory a 2-1 advantage. Greensboro tied the game in the home half of the fourth.

Hickory would manufacture a run in the fifth inning. With one away, Devin Hurdle walked and would later steal second base. Tucker Mitchell would single, allowing Hurdle to score. Greensboro responded with a run in the bottom of the seventh to the game at 3-3.

Hickory took the lead in the ninth inning. Galan singled and Ian Moller was then walked. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance and when Hurdle singled two batters later, the Crawdads led 4-3. But the Grasshoppers scored in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.

With Tucker Mitchell the designated runner to start on second for Hickory, Benjamin Blackwell singled, allowing Mitchell to score. Yohanse Morel then came in for the ‘Dads pitching staff. He issued an inning opening walk, but struck out the next batters swinging before forcing a soft ground out to end the contest.

Hickory is 4-6 on the early season. They will face Greensboro on the road all this week.
