Hickory Crawdads Win Day Game at Rome

The Hickory Crawdads defeated the Rome Emperors, 4-1, in a day game Wednesday in Georgia.

The Crawdads got two runs in the first inning thanks to a two run home run by Konner Piotto. Alejandro Osuna drew a game opening walk in five pitches and on a 1-1 count, Piotto homered to right field.

The Emperors would gain their only run of the contest in the second inning. However, Hickory would tack on runs in the eighth and ninth innings. In the eighth inning, with two outs, Sebastian Walcott drew a walk. He scored from first on Yeison Morrobel’s double.

In the top of the ninth, Quincy Scott was walked and Benjamin Blackwell reached base on an error. Jayce Easley hit a sacrifice bunt, advancing both base runners. Marco Soto would hit a deep fly ball to right field, allowing Scott to tag up and score from third base.

Hickory pitching was hit on the 70 degree day. Mitch Bratt went five innings, allowing four hits and the one run while striking out six and allowing only one walk. Jacob Maton pitched two innings, allowing a hit and striking out one. Jackson Kelley pitched the final two innings, with three strikeouts and allowing only one hit.
