Hickory Crawdads Win Again at Greenville

The Hickory Crawdads defeated the Greenville Drive, 9-4 on the road Thursday night.

Hickory got off to a hot start with a pair of runs in the second inning. Jayce Easley took the first pitch of the game for a double and would move to third when Evan Carter hit a double two pitches later. Aaron Zavala then singled, scoring both Easley and Carter.

The Crawdads tacked on four more runs in the third inning. With one out, Carter singled to center field. Zavala singled, placing runners on the corners. Luisangel Acuna singled, scoring Carter and moving Zavala to second. Thomas Saggese then cleared the bases with a home run to right center field.

Greenville would tack on their first run of the game in the home half of the fourth inning. They would add a single run in the sixth and seventh inning, but Hickory still led 6-3.

The Crawdads added three insurance runs in the top of the eighth. Acuna and Saggese started the inning with back-to-back walks. A wild pitch advanced the pair before a strike out got the first out of the inning. However, another wild pitch allowed Acuna to score and moved Saggese to third. Keyber Rodriguez would homer over the left field Green Monster wall to finish the Crawdads scoring.

Hickory allowed a home run in the bottom of the ninth, but took the 9-4 win.

Ben Anderson got the start and the win for the Crawdads on the mound. He went five innings, allowing only two hits, one run and struck out two. Spencer Mraz pitched two innings, allowing only two hits and two runs while striking out three and Joe Corbett pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit, one run and striking out four.
