Hickory Crawdads Win After First Inning Grand Slam

The Hickory Crawdads won at Greensboro Saturday night, 4-2. Hickory scored all four runs in the first inning and held on from there.

The Crawdads got to Grasshoppers starter Omar Cruz. With one away in the first inning, Frainyer Chavez walked and would then steal second base. Justin Foscue walked as well, and reached second on a passed ball. Chavez moved to third on the play. Blaine Crim was walked on four straight pitches. David Garcia then hit a grand slam and that would be all the scoring Hickory would need.

Despite this, the Crawdads only managed two hits on the night. Crim would later single for the only other hit for Hickory. The Crawdads were issued six walks on the night. Two Greensboro passed balls and an error helped the Crawdads cause.

Hickory is 3-2. The Crawdads have their home opener Tuesday against Winston-Salem.
