Hickory Crawdads Suffer Worse Loss of Season on Saturday

The Hickory Crawdads managed only two hits in a 15-1 drubbing at Hudson Valley Saturday night. The Renegades, meanwhile, had 24 hits in the contest.

Hudson Valley scored two runs in the third inning, three runs in the sixth and then eight runs in the seventh inning as the team batted around and got five batters deep in the second go round.

Hickory’s first hit did not come until the top of the eighth inning. Down 13-0, Angel Aponte got the inning started with a single. Keyber Rodriguez doubled, moving Aponte to third. One out later, Josh Hatcher recorded a ground out, but it allowed Aponte to score the Crawdads lone run of the night.

The Renegades would tack on two more in the bottom of the eight for the final 15-1 score.

The loss drops Hickory to 24-29 on the second half of the season. They are 62-57 overall on the season. Hickory wraps up the series against the Renegades on Sunday. They will be off on Monday and travel to Aberdeen to start a six-game series on Tuesday.
