The Hickory Crawdads fell 7-4 on the road to the Winston-Salem Dash Friday night. The loss snaps Hickory’s franchise best 15 game winning streak.
The Dash struck first in the contest, with three runs in the third inning, and two more in the fifth. Hickory wouldn’t score until the sixth inning with a pair of runs. Tucker Mitchell opened the inning with a single. He moved to second on a forceout by Max Acosta. Abimelec Ortiz then his his third triple of the season, allowing Acosta to score. Ortiz scored when Cody Freeman drove him in on a ground out. However, Winston-Salem scored two in the home half of the sixth inning.
Hickory tacked on single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Back-to-back-to-back singles from Daniel Mateo, Griffin Cheney and Geisel Cepeda allowed for a score by Mateo in the seventh inning. In the eighth, Ortiz singled with one away. A wild pitch moved him to second. Cody Freeman was walked on four straight pitches. An error on a force out allowed Ortiz to score from second base.
The loss gives Hickory their first in the second half of the season to go 12-1. They are continuing their series against Winston-Salem Saturday and Sunday.
