Hickory Crawdads Still Looking For First Win of Season After Loss to Rome

The Hickory Crawdads dropped their third straight game to open the season, falling 3-0 to the Rome Emperors in Georgia on Sunday.

Held to just three hits in the season opener Friday, Hickory had better luck Saturday with seven hits but reverted back to their form Friday night, once again managing only three hits.

The Crawdads best chance to score came in the top of the third inning. Ian Moller singled to opened up the inning. It was the first hit of the contest for the Crawdads. Daniel Mateo followed up with a single of his own, putting runners on first and second base. However, after a strikeout, the Crawdads hit into a double play, negating any momentum for Hickory.

Rome, held to only four hits themselves, scored first in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, a sac fly scored a run, but Hickory held defensively to stop the threat.

The Emperors would score an additional run in the seventh and eighth innings to secure the 3-0 win over the Crawdads.

For the second straight game, Hickory was not issued a walk. For the series, Rome pitching allowed 13 hits, one run and walked three for a WHIP of 0.59.

Hickory is 0-3 to start the season. They are off on Monday, but will open up the home schedule Tuesday against the Jersey Shore Blue Claws. First pitch is set for 6pm Tuesday.
