Hickory Crawdads Split Doubleheader With Asheville
The Hickory Crawdads split a doubleheader with the Asheville Tourists Sunday, losing the first game 6-1 but winning the second contest, 8-5. The game Saturday night had been postponed due to rain in Asheville.
In game one, Hickory gave up four runs in the bottom of the first inning and managed only two hits of their own in the contest. Max Acosta hit a solo home run in the top of hte fifth inning and one out later in the inning, Geisel Cepeda doubled but would be left stranded.
In game two, it was Hickory who jumped out to an early lead, scoring a run in the second inning, two runs in the third, and another run in the fourth before the Tourists tied the game with four runs in the home half of the fourth inning. Hickory would score four in the top of the seventh to pull away for the win. Crawdads pitching allowed only three hits by Asheville.
Daniel Mateo would hit a solo home run in the third inning and Yosy Galan would hit a two run shot in that four run seventh inning. Galan went three-for-three batting with two runs scored, two RBI and he was walked once.
The Crawdads are 29-12 on the second half of the season, and 56-46 overall. Hickory is off on Monday and return home to L.P. Frans Stadium Tuesday evening when they host the Rome Braves.
