Hickory Crawdads Snap 13 Game Losing Streak

The Hickory Crawdads snapped their losing streak on Sunday afternoon, coming from behind to win 8-7 over the Rome Braves.

The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when the ‘Dads pulled ahead 3-0. Geisel Cepeda led off the fifth inning with a single that trickled down the left field line, as the fielders watched to see if it’d roll foul. Jayce Easley drew a walk to put two runners on. Cooper Johnson singled to drive in Cepeda for the first run of the game. Daniel Mateo grounded out but advanced both runners on the play. Alejandro Osuna picked up a base hit to score two and put the ‘Dads up by three.

Rome tied things up in the top of the sixth and added on two in the seventh to pull ahead 7-3.

The Crawdads quickly bounced back, getting five in the seventh. Keyber Rodriguez and Easley collected base hits while Johnson drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Mateo worked a seven pitch walk to force in a run. Osuna came up clutch again for the ‘Dads, sending an 0-2 pitch over the wall for a go-ahead grand slam.

The Crawdads closed the door on the Braves in the eighth and ninth to secure the 8-7 win.

The Crawdads are off Monday but will start a new homestand on Tuesday against the Asheville Tourists.
