Hickory Crawdads Return to the Win Column

The Hickory Crawdads got back to their winning ways with a 5-3 victory at Asheville Thursday. Tucker Mitchell went three-for-four batting with a run scored and two RBI to lead the Crawdads.

Hickory scored a run in the second inning. Cody Freeman was a hit by a pitch as the leadoff batter. Mitchell singled to advance Freeman into scoring position. One out later, Angel Aponte singled to center field allowing Freeman to score.

The Crawdads added a pair of runs in the sixth inning. With two outs, Freeman reached base on a fielding error by the third baseman. Mitchell then homered, his eighth of the season. Asheville would place their first run of the game in the home half of the sixth inning.

Hickory was left without a run in the seventh inning, and Asheville tied the game with a pair of runs in the home half of the seventh. But the Crawdads would get two runs in the ninth to take the win. Benjamin Blackwell hit his first home run as a Crawdad with Yosy Galan on board for the final 5-3 margin.

Hickory is 27-11 on the second half of the season. They are 54-45 overall. The Crawdads are in Asheville through Sunday. They will be back at home to take on the Rome Braves starting Tuesday.
