Hickory Crawdads Rally to Defeat Greenville

The Hickory Crawdads pushed past the Drive with an eighth inning rally to win 4-3.

Greenville took a 2-0 lead with a homerun in the fifth, Emiliano Teodo’s last inning of work. He finished with four hits allowed, no walks, and six strikeouts.

The Crawdads rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. Wyatt Langford hit a towering homerun to left for the first run. Abimelec Ortiz followed up with a sharp grounder down the first base line for a double and Geisel Cepeda lined a single in the right-center gap to score Ortiz and even the score.

The ‘Dads rallied to pull ahead 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth. Cam Cauley walked and got into scoring position by stealing second. Langford reached on a fielding error to put runners on the corners. Ortiz worked a six pitch at bat and laced a single, putting the Crawdads ahead by a run. Cepeda flied out to send Langford to third. A passed ball let Langford come in to score the second run of the inning.

Greenville led off the ninth with a solo homerun, but Seth Clark settled down to close out the game.

The series will wrap up Sunday at 2pm.
