Hickory Crawdads Rally Falls Short at Greensboro

The Hickory Crawdads fell to the Greensboro Grasshoppers on the road Wednesday afternoon, 8-6. Down 7-1 headed to the top of the seventh inning, the Crawdads put up some late inning heroics, but fell short.

The contest was scoreless through the first three innings. In the top of the fourth, Sebastian Walcott was issued an inning opening walk. Walcott would advance to third on a ground out before Jayce Easley was hit by a pitch. With runners on the corners, Yosy Galan doubled to left field, allowing Walcott to score. However, a six run home half of the inning for the Grasshoppers saw them take a 6-1 lead into the fifth inning. Greensboro would tack on an additional run in the bottom of the sixth.

Hickory’s rally started in the top of the seventh. Tucker Mitchell homered to left center field to open the seventh inning. In the top of the eighth, Galan drew a walk to start the inning. One out later, Devin Hurdle doubled allowing Galan to score. After a strikeout, Tucker Mitchell was walked and on the next batter, a throwing error by the Greensboro pitcher on a pickoff attempt allowed Hurdle to score. The Grasshoppers were able to get another run across in the home half of the eighth.

In the ninth inning, Yelson Morrobel singled for the Crawdads. With one away, Galan hit his third home run of the season, but the rally would end there.

Hickory falls to 4-7 on the first half of the season. They will be at Greensboro the remainder of this week.
