Hickory Crawdads Pick Up Late Inning Win

The Hickory Crawdads blasted out 14 hits and scored a ninth inning run to down the Greenville Drive, 5-4.

Hickory scored first with a run in the second inning. Gleider Figuereo singled to open the inning. One out later, Marcus Smith was walked. Ian Moller singled that loaded the bases. After a strikeout, Cameron Cauley singled allowing Figuereo to score. Greenville would score a run in the third and fourth innings.

The game broke open in the sixth inning. With one away, Anthony Gutierrez singled to center field, and then stole second base, his 22nd stolen base of the season. After a strikeout, Moller singled, bringing Gutierrez home. Yosy Galan then followed up with a two run home run to left field and Hickory led 4-2. However, the Drive tied the contest with two runs in the home half of the sixth.

The ninth inning opened with Luis Mieses hitting a triple with a line drive to right field. Benjamin Blackwell then came in as a pinch runner for Mieses. One out later, Gutierrez singled to left field, allowing Blackwell to score the winning run.

Four pitchers took the mound for Hickory, striking out 13 total Drive batters.

The Crawdads are 3-5 on the second half of the season, 31-43 overall. The Crawdads wrap up the series Sunday and will return home to play three games against Winston-Salem starting on Monday night.
