The Hickory Crawdads defeated the Aberdeen IronBirds, 4-1 Saturday night on the road.
Hickory would score three runs in the top of the third inning. Liam Hicks would single in the first run of the game and Cody Freeman singled in two runs to give Hickory a 3-0 lead.
A single run in the eighth inning by the IronBirds cut the lead to two, however, Hickory got the run back in the top of the ninth with a Hicks sacrifice fly that scored Daniel Mateo.
Hickory was led by Mateo who had two hits and a run scored. Hicks and Freeman each had two RBI.
Ryan Garcia pitched five innings, allowing only two hits and striking out nine. He walked only one. John Matthews pitched the next three innings for Hickory, allowing only three hits and the lone run while striking out four. Michael Brewer picked up the save pitching the ninth inning without allowing a hit and striking out one.
The Crawdads are 27-32 on the second half of the season, 65-60 overall. They wrap up the series with Aberdeen on Sunday. They are off on Monday and wrap up the season at home with a series against the Rome Braves starting on Tuesday.
