Hickory Crawdads Outlast Bowling Green

The Hickory Crawdads defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods 6-4 on the road Wednesday. Hickory jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on from there.

The Crawdads got their first three runs in the top of the second inning. Evan Carter reached first base on a throwing error. One out later, Keyber Rodriguez singled moving Carter to second. Angel Aponte then doubled, scoring both Carter and Rodriguez. Scott Kapers then singled, allowing Aponte to score.

Bowling Green got a run back in the bottom of the third, but Hickory got it back in the fifth inning. With two out, and no one on base, Cristian Inoa hit his third home run of the season, giving the Crawdads a 4-1 lead.

A pair of doubles got another run in for Hickory in the top half of the sixth inning. Cody Freeman led off the inning with a double, and came one one batter later when Thomas Saggese doubled. The Hot Rods scored two in the home of the sixth, but Hickory held the 5-3 advantage.

The Crawdads would add one last insurance run in the eighth inning with a Cody Freeman solo home run. Bowling Green would add one in the bottom of the ninth, but Hickory held on for the 6-4 win.

Ricky Vanasco picked up the win on the mound, his first of the season. He went five innings, allowing only one hit and one run scored, while striking out six. Yohanse Morel pitched one inning, allowing two hits and two runs scored but struck out two. Marc Church went two innings allowing only one hit with four strikeouts and Triston Polley got the save with an inning pitched, allowing one run to score but striking out two.

The Crawdads are 31-22 on the season and continue to take on the Hot Rods in Kentucky through Sunday.
