Hickory Crawdads Gets By Greensboro in Extra Innings

The Hickory Crawdads came back in the tenth inning to walk-it-off against the Greensboro Grasshoppers 5-4 Saturday night at home. The win was the team’s eleventh consecutive victory.

The Crawdads got rolling early, putting up a run in the first. Maximo Acosta doubled, and Abimelec Ortiz extended his hit streak to 15 games with a triple in the right-center gap to bring in the run.

Greensboro tied the game with a run in the third and took a 3-1 lead in the fourth with two runs.

The Crawdads evened the game at three in the fifth. They got runners on the corners as Frainyer Chavez walked and Keyber Rodriguez singled to right. Alejandro Osuna doubled to left, bringing in both runners.

The game remained tied through nine, sending it to extras.

Greensboro got their designated runner around from second in the top half of the inning, but the Crawdads wasted no time doing the same, as Rodriguez singled in Chavez from second on the second pitch of home half of the frame. The ‘Dads proceed to load the bases as Maximo Acosta walked and Ortiz was hit by a pitch. The Grasshoppers were forced to change pitchers after taking two mound visits, bringing in a righty reliever to face Cody Freeman. Freeman hit a high fly ball to shallow center field that the fielder dove for, allowing Rodriguez to tag up and score the winning run.

The Crawdads will try for their twelfth straight win Sunday, which would tie a franchise best. The game will feature the biggest post-game firework show of the season. The seating bowl is sold out but standing room only tickets are available for $5. First pitch is at 6:30pm.
