Hickory Crawdads Finish Sweep of Aberdeen
The Hickory Crawdads wrapped up a series sweep, defeating the Aberdeen IronBirds on the road, 7-1 Sunday.
The Crawdads struck first in the third inning. Jayce Easley drew an inning opening walk. Two flyouts and an error later, Easley would end up on third. After Wyatt Langord walked, a double steal got Easley home for the first run of the game.
Hickory scored again in the fourth when Max Acosta homered to left field. It was his seventh home run of the season.
Aberdeen would answer with a run of their own in the home half of the fifth inning, but Hickory tacked on three more runs in the seventh. Cody Freeman led off the inning with a walk. Geisel Cepeda singled and Yosy Galan was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Easley singled scoring Freeman and Cepeda and Galan ended up on third after an error by the IronBirds right fielder. One out later, Cameron Cauley hit a sac fly to right field, allowing Galan to score.
Hickory would score single runs in the eight and ninth inning to take the 7-1 win.
Cepeda had three hits, scored a run, and had an RBI. Cauley and Easley had two RBI. Easley and Acosta both scored twice.
Over the six game series, Aberdeen committed 17 errors that led to 11 Crawdad runs.
Hickory improves to 25-10 on the second half of the season and have won six straight. They are 52-44 overall. The Crawdads are off on Monday and will travel to Asheville Tuesday through Sunday.
