Hickory Crawdads Finish Series With Win at Greenville

The Hickory Crawdads downed the Greenville Drive, 8-5 Sunday on the road.

Hickory started out hot with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Jayce Easley took the first pitch of the contest into left field for a line drive single. However, he was picked off trying to steal second base for the first out of the inning. Aaron Zavala was then walked, and Evan Carter followed with a walk. Cody Freeman then singled, scoring Zavala and moving Carter to second. Trevor Hauver walked to load the bases. Thomas Saggese hit a sacrifice fly allowing Carter to score.

Greenville got a run back in the bottom of the second but Hickory opened up the game in the fourth inning with four runs. Hauver homered to start the inning, his fifth of the season. Saggese followed with a double. One out later, Frainyer Chavez singled, scoring Saggese. Chavez then stole second base before Scott Kapers homered, and Hickory led 6-1.

The Drive scored four in the bottom of the fifth, but Hickory added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth. With one away, Zavala walked. Carter this singled putting runners on first and second. Freeman was forced out, but advanced the runners into scoring position. Hauver was walked again loading the bases. Saggese doubled allowing Carter and Freeman to score.

Hickory is 22-16 on the season. They are off on Monday and host the Winston-Salem Dash starting on Tuesday at L.P. Frans Stadium.
