Hickory Crawdads Fall to Winston-Salem on Saturday
The Hickory Crawdads lost 16-1 to the Winston-Salem Dash Saturday evening on the road. The Crawdads were held to six hits in the loss.
Winston-Salem scored early and often against the Crawdads pitching staff. The Dash scored two runs in the first inning, six in the second, and two more in the third to take a commanding 10-0 lead. They tacked on three more runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth.
Hickory’s only scoring came in the top of the ninth inning. With two out in the inning, Griffin Cheney hits his first home run of the season to left field. Cheney came into the contest as a pinch hitter for Abimelec Ortiz in the top of the seventh inning.
Keyber Rodriguez was the only Crawdads player to have a multi-hit game. He went two-for-four batting.
The loss drops Hickory to 12-2 on the second half of the season. The final game of the series scheduled for Sunday was postponed due to heavy rains in Winston-Salem. The game likely will be made up in the last series of the regular season as Hickory will host the Dash. September 5th-10th.
Hickory is off until Friday when they host the Greenville Drive for a three game weekend series.
