Hickory Crawdads Fall to Asheville on Friday

The Hickory Crawdads fell Friday night to the Asheville Tourists, 9-6. The Tourists used a six run second inning to secure the win.

Nick Krauth took the start for the Crawdads but lasted only 1.1 innings, allowing five hits, six runs, five of which were earned and two home runs. However, the Crawdads started to chip away at the Asheville lead in the sixth inning.

Down 7-0, Hickory got two runs across. Thomas Saggese singled to open the inning. Angel Aponte then homered to score a pair of runs.

Asheville added insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. In the eighth inning, Saggese again opened the inning with a single. One our later, Scott Kapers reached first on a fielding error, moving Saggese to second. Aaron Zavala then doubled, scoring Saggese and pushing Kapers to third. Luisangel Acuna singled, allowing Kapers to score.

Hickory would tack on two more in the top of the ninth. After Cristian Inoa walked to start the inning, Keyber Rodrigues singled. Two outs later, Kapers tripled scorng Inoa and Rodriguez before a strikeout ended the game.
