Hickory Crawdads Fall in Pitchers Dual at Greenville

The Hickory Crawdads and Greenville Drive played in a pitchers dual where the Drive won 2-1. A night after the two teams combined for 19 hits and 18 runs, Thursday’s contest saw Hickory get only two hits and the Drive only had three.

On the first pitch of the game, Cameron Cauley doubled with a line drive to center field. Yeison Morrobel was the walked. One out later, Luis Mieses hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Cauley to score what would be the lone run for the Crawdads.

Greenville scored a run in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run and scored the winning in the eighth.

Hickory starter Mitch Bratt took the tough luck loss, despite pitching seven innings, allowing only three hits and two runs while striking out four and walking only one. It’s the second straight start that Bratt has gone seven innings deep. Florencio Serrano pitched the eighth inning, striking out one.

The Crawdads lineup struck out 17 times in the contest. Cauley’s double was the only extra base hit. The only other hit came from Jesus Moreno who singled in the top of the second inning. Hickory would have only one other base runner after that point, when Quincy Scott was walked in the top of the seventh inning.
