Hickory Crawdads End Road Trip Against Winston-Salem With Loss

The Hickory Crawdads fell in heartbreaking fashion to the Winston-Salem Dash on the road, 6-4 Saturday night. With the score tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Winston-Salem hit a two run home run to get a walk-off win.

The Dash took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before Hickory scored all four of their runs in the top of the third. Yosy Galan was issued a walk to start the inning and then stole second base. Cameron Cauley hit a home run clearing the bases. Hickory was not done yet. Marcus Smith singled and Sebastian Walcott doubled, moving Smith to third. One out later, a wild pitch allowed Smith to score and moved Walcott to third. Yeison Morrobel ground out to first base, but Walcott was able to score.

In the fourth inning and sixth inning, Winston-Salem got a run in each inning and then tied the game in the eighth inning with another run. In the ninth inning, Hickory got a man on base due to a walk, but were unable to score a run. In the home half of the inning, the Dash singled, stole a base, and after the first out, a home run to left center field ended the ballgame.

Ian Moller went two-for-three batting. Cauley had a pair of RBI, along with a hit and a run scored.

Aidan Curry got the start for the Crawdads and pitched five innings, allowing six hits and two runs (one earned), while striking out seven and walking none.

Hickory is 7-8 on the second half of the season, 35-46 overall. They are off Sunday and Monday and return to play with a road trip to Bowling Green that starts on Tuesday.
