Hickory Crawdads Edge Out Greenville at Home

The Hickory Crawdads topped the Greenville Drive 3-2 on Wednesday night, picking up their second straight win.

Wyatt Langford roped a single in the bottom of the first and came around on a double by Abimelec Ortiz, giving the ‘Dads a 1-0 lead.

The Crawdads doubled their lead in the fifth with another run. Cooper Johnson doubled to start the inning and took third on a fly out by Ben Blackwell. Cam Cauley grounded out to first, scoring Johnson from third.

The ‘Dads kept rolling in the third, using a similar script to the first inning. Langford walked and scored as Ortiz hit his second double of the night.

Jose Corniell started the game for the ‘Dads, pitching five scoreless innings and allowing two hits and walking none. He struck out nine batters.

Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa took over in relief, pitching to hitless innings and striking out two batters. Andy Rodriguez pitched a scoreless eighth but ran into trouble in the ninth, allowing two runs and loading the bases. Seth Clark entered to record the final out and picked up the save.

Hickory improves to 33-16 on the second half of the season and 60-50 overall on the season.

The series will continue tomorrow evening with Battle of the Bags by OrthoCarolina. Thursday is also the college football kickoff and fans can dress in their favorite team’s gear for a discounted $6 ticket.
