Hickory Crawdads Drops Series Opener to Greenville

The Hickory Crawdads fell to the Greenville Drive, 11-6 on the road Tuesday night.

The Drive grabbed three runs in the first inning and Hickory wouldn’t get on the scoreboard until the third inning. With two outs, Evan Carter hit his third home run of the season to right center field.

Hickory would tie it up in the fourth inning. Cody Freeman hit a single to center field to lead off the inning. Trevor Hauver than hit a two run home run to right field.

However, Greenville would score runs in every inning from the fifth inning on. The Drive had a two run home run in the bottom of the fifth, a solo home run in the sixth inning, would score three runs in the seventh and the Drive hit back-to-back solo home runs in the eighth inning.

Hickory scored a run in the top half of the eighth inning. Evan Carter singled to start the inning. One out later, Freeman doubled advancing Carter to third. Hauver would ground out, but the sacrifice allowed Carter to score.

In the top of the ninth inning, the Crawdads tried to rally. Back-to-back walks to open the inning gave way to a Keyber Rodriguez single, loading the bases. Aaron Zavala would bring two runs home with a double, but a pitching change by the Drive resulted in three straight strikouts to end the game.

Hickory is 17-16 on the season. They will take on the Drive through Sunday in South Carolina.
