Hickory Crawdads Drop Third Straight to Rome

The Hickory Crawdads lost 5-2 on Saturday night to the Rome Braves, their third straight loss. The series is now 3-2 in favor of Rome.

The Crawdads got the first run of the game, scoring in the first. Daniel Mateo singled and stole second to get into scoring position. Maximo Acosta moved him to third on a ground out. Wyatt Langford walked to put runners on the corners. Langford was caught stealing second but the throw to second allowed a speedy Mateo to score.

Rome managed four in the second to take a lead that they’d hold the rest of the night. They added on another in the fifth to pull ahead 5-1.

The ‘Dads got a run in the six to make it a three-run game. Mateo singled and moved to third on as Acosta reached on a fielding error. Cody Freeman singled on a ground ball between the third baseman and shortstop to score Mateo.

The series will wrap up Sunday afternoon with a 2pm game.
