Hickory Crawdads Drop Series Opener to Rome

The Hickory Crawdads fell 3-1 to the Rome Emperors to open up a six-game road trip in Georgia. The Crawdads were held to only three hits in the contest.

Hickory got off to a good start in the contest. With two outs in the first inning, Sebastian Walcott hit his second home run of the season, and the Crawdads had a 1-0 lead before the Emperors had their first at-bat. However, Rome did respond in the home half of the first with a run to even the score at 1-1.

The Crawdads got another base hit in the fourth inning. Quincy Scott singled with two outs in the inning. Yeison Morrobel singled, moving Scott to third, and putting runners on the corners. However, a flyout would end the threat, and Hickory was held hitless the rest of the way and did not draw any walks in the process as well.

Rome would add a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and a run in the eighth for the final 3-1 score.

The loss drops Hickory to 8-13 on the first half of the season. The Crawdads remain in Rome all this week.
