The Hickory Crawdads lost to the Bowling Green Hot Rods 11-4 in the series finale in Kentucky Sunday. Hickory lost five of the six games against Bowling Green.
A solo home run gave Bowling Green a 1-0 lead after the first inning and the Hot Rods tacked on four more in the bottom of the third inning. Hickory would get on the board in the seventh inning. A Luisangel Acuna single and Evan Carter single would be followed with a walk to Cody Freeman to load the bases. Cristian Inoa would then be issued a walk in five pitches, allowing Acuna to score for the Crawdads first run.
Bowling Green would respond with three runs each in the seventh and eighth innings. Hickory would add three runs in the top of the ninth. Acuna opened the inning with a four-pitch walk. Two batters later, Carter was walked. With two outs, Inoa hit his fifth home run of the season, a fly ball to right center field.
The loss drops Hickory to 6-9 on the second half of the season and 44-37 overall. They are off on Monday and begin a six-game home series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Tuesday.
