Hickory Crawdads Drop High Scoring Road Contest

The Hickory Crawdads fell in a wild 15-12 contest against the Aberdeen IronBirds on the road Sunday night.

Hickory started the scoring in the third inning. With two on and one out, Luis Mieses doubled with a line drive to left field. Cameron Cauley and Sebastian Walcott scored and Mieses moved to third on a throwing error. Konner Piotto followed with a single, allowing Mieses to score.

The Crawdads tacked on five more in the top of the fourth. Alejandro Osuna singled and then stole second base. Cauley and Yeison Morrobel were issued back-to-back walks to load the bases. Walcott then hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Osuna to score and Cauley to move to third. Mieses then singled scoring Cauley and placing Morrobel on second. A wild pitch put them both in scoring position. One out later, Anthony Gutierrez hit an infield single, allowing Morrobel to score but Mieses was held to third. Gutierrez stole second base before Quincy Scott doubled, scoring Mieses and Gutierrez. Aberdeen answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Hickory put up four more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Walcott singled and then scored on a double by Mieses. Piotto singled allowing Mieses. Two outs later, Jayce Easley singled, before Osuna was walked to load the bases. Cauley reached on a fielding error, which scored Piotto and Easley. Aberdeen added two more in the sixth inning as Hickory led 12-8.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Aberdeen scored seven runs on a single, two doubles, four walks, and an error. A total of 12 pitchers were used, five by the Crawdads and seven from Aberdeen.

The Crawdads are 27-36 on the season. They are off on Monday and will host the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Tuesday for the first of a six game series.
