Hickory Crawdads Drop First Game in Series Against Rome

The Crawdads three game win streak was snapped on Thursday evening as they fell 3-1 to the Rome Braves in the debut of their Hickory Dickory Docks identity.

Cooper Johnson broke the scoreless game with his second homerun of the season, giving the ‘Dads a one-run lead.

Jose Corniell continued his dominant August with five scoreless innings. He allowed four hits and walked none while striking out six.

Larson Kindreich tossed a scoreless sixth and Gavin Collyer took over in the seventh. Collyer pitched a scoreless seventh but surrendered a three-run homer in the top of the eighth to put the Crawdads behind 3-1.

The Crawdads got a run back in the bottom of the eighth as Daniel Mateo hit his ninth triple of the season, tying him for league lead, and Wyatt Langford grounded out to the first baseman, allowing Mateo to score.

Ricky DeVito pitched the ninth for the ‘Dads, keeping it a one-run game but the Crawdads batters were retired in order to end the game.

The Crawdads will take on their alternate identity again Friday night.
