Hickory Crawdads Drop First Game in Eight Tries
The Hickory Crawdads fell to the Asheville Tourists Wednesday night 9-3, snapping their seven game winning streak.
The Crawdads got on the board in the top of the third inning. Cameron Cauley singled, and would advance to second on a Cody Freeman ground out. Wyatt Langford stepped up and hit a single to left field, allowing Cauley to score. However, Asheville tacked on three runs in the home half of the inning.
Hickory scored again in the top of the fifth inning. With one out in the inning, Cauley once again singled, and then stole second base. Two batters later, Langford his first home run as a Crawdads as Hickory tied the game at three.
Asheville, however, scored a run in the sixth inning, two runs in the seventh inning and three more runs in the eighth inning to win 9-3.
Langford, the fourth overall pick in this years draft for the Texas Rangers, went a perfect three-for-three with a run scored and three RBI. He also was walked once.
Hickory falls to 26-11 on the second half of the season. They are 53-45 overall. The Crawdads are in Asheville through Sunday.
