Hickory Crawdads Doubled Up by Rome

The Hickory Crawdads lost to the Rome Emperors 8-4 Thursday night on the road. The Crawdads did bash out 10 hits, but nine runners left on base doomed Hickory in the loss.

Rome opened the game with two runs in the first inning, but Hickory responded in the top of the second. With one out, Benjamin Blackwell singled and advanced to second on a ground out. He scored on a Marco Soto single to left field. Rome scored a run in the second.

Hickory tacked on two runs to tie the game in the top of the third inning.Konner Piotto opened the inning with a single and then stole second base. Two outs later, Quincy Scott singled allowing Piotto to score. Scott would steal second and Yosy Galan hit a triple to center field, allowing Scott to score.

Rome added another run in the fourth inning and four more in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good. Hickory had another run score in the seventh. Piotto reached first base on a fielding error. He would move to second on a ground out. A throwing error on the pitcher in a pickoff attempt moved him to third. Piotto scored on a ground out.

Hickory is 9-14 on the first half of the season. They will stay in Rome through the weekend.
