Hickory Crawdads Dominate Greensboro at Home

The Hickory Crawdads took down the Greensboro Grasshoppers 8-3 on Wednesday night.

The ‘Dads started the scoring early, get a run in the first. Aaron Zavala led off the bottom of the first inning with a single to right field. Luisangel Acuña doubled to left to bring Zavala around to score.

The ‘Dads erupted for five runs in the second inning to pull ahead 6-0. Frainyer Chavez led off with a single. Randy Florentino put runners on first and second with a single of his own. Zavala added a base hit of his own that scored Chavez and a fielding error on the play let Florentino and Zavala both advance into scoring position. Evan Carter’s hit drove in Florentino to put the Crawdads ahead by three. Luisangel Acuña sent a no doubt three-run homerun over the left fence for his first homer of the season.

Ricky Vanasco started the night on the mound for the Crawdads, tossing four innings while allowing two hits, an earned run in the fourth, and struck out five batters.

Keyber Rodriguez grounded out but advanced both runners. A wild pitch let Inoa come in to score. After a Randy Florentino walk, Chavez scored on another wild pitch.

Greensboro got two runs across in the ninth inning off Spencer Mraz but he closed the door to cement the victory for the ‘Dads.
