Hickory Crawdads Defeat Greensboro With Solid Pitching, Four Run First

The Hickory Crawdads won 5-3 over the Greensboro Grasshoppers Friday night on the road. The Crawdads used a four run first inning to take the early lead and the pitching staff did the rest for Hickory.

In the first inning, with one out, Yeison Morrobel walked. Sebastian Walcott doubled, advancing Morrobel to third base. One out later, Anthony Gutierrez reached on a fielding error. Both Morrobel and Walcott scored. Gutierrez stole second base as Konner Piotto was walked. A double steal allowed both runners to advance into scoring position. Ian Moller walked, bringing a first inning pitching change. Jayce Easley would smack a single to right field, scoring two and Hickory held a 4-0 lead before the Grasshoppers were able to bat.

Winston Santos got the start for Hickory and pitched five innings, allowing only one hit and two walks while striking out 12 of the 18 batters he faced. Yohanse Morel would take the next two innings, also allowing only one hit while striking out three.

The only real threat from Greensboro came in the bottom of the eighth inning. Skylar Hales allowed the Grasshoppers to score three runs on only one hit and issued two walks. He lasted only two thirds of an inning before Larson Kindreich shut down Greensboro, pitching the final 1.1 innings, allowing only two hits and issuing two walks but striking out two.
