Hickory Crawdads Allow Only Two Hits in Ninth Straight Win
The Hickory Crawdads kept their win streak going on Thursday night with a 7-0 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers, their ninth straight victory.
The ‘Dads struck first, getting a run in the second inning. Cody Freeman singled and took third on a single by Geisel Cepeda. Yosy Galan grounded into a double play, scoring Freeman.
Tucker Mitchell added a homerun to make it a 2-0 ballgame.
The Crawdads rallied again in the sixth, getting four more across. Singles by Mitchell and Abimelec Ortiz and a walk by Geisel Cepeda loaded the bases. Galan slapped a ball to left, bringing in two. Daniel Mateo reached on a fielding error by the catcher that loaded the bases. Frainyer Chavez collected a base hit to center to score two more and push the lead to six.
They capped off the scoring with a another run in the eighth. Cody Freeman doubled to lead off the inning, moved to third on a ground out by Cepeda and scored on a double off the wall by Galan.
Crawdads pitchers held Greensboro to two hits for the second straight night. Larson Kindreich got the start, going five frames with one hit, three walks, and eight strikeouts. Jackson Kelley took over for the sixth and seventh innings without allowing a hit but walking three. Yohanse Morel allowed a hit in the eighth before turning the ball over to Gavin Collyer, who closed the game out with a 1-2-3 inning.
The Crawdads will try to stretch their win streak to 10 Friday night with Hoedown Throwdown and post-game fireworks. First pitch is set for 7pm.
