Hickory City Council Meets, Votes On New Budget

Hickory City Council met in regular session Tuesday (June 8). Minutes, second readings, and the consent agenda were all approved.

City Manager Warren Wood presented the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 recommended budget, which totals $126,206,168 for all City operations, capital improvements, and debt service requirements for the upcoming year. This represents an 8.9 percent increase over the current year’s budget. The property tax rate remains at 62.75 cents per $100 of assessed value. City Council approved the budget at Tuesday’s meeting.

A new property tax rate is anticipated with the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 annual budget due to the County-wide revaluation of property that will take effect during that fiscal year. In other action last night, Council approved the Voluntary Contiguous Annexation of 1.35 acres on at 2906 Springs Road NE. Council also approved a resolution directing that a street improvement project be undertaken for curb and gutter along a portion of 6th Avenue Drive NW.
