Hickory City Council Meets, Votes On Budget

Hickory City Council met in regular session Tuesday (June 4). City Manager Warren Wood presented his Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Recommended Budget.

The manager first delivered his Recommended Budget to Council on May 21. It totals $144,793,945 for all City operations, capital improvements, and debt service requirements for the upcoming year. This represents a 5.8% increase over the current year’s budget.

The property tax rate for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 was recommended to remain unchanged at 45.5 cents per $100 of assessed value. Following the public hearing, City Council unanimously approved the budget.

In other action Tuesday, council approved the voluntary contiguous annexation of 12.45 acres owned by the City of Hickory at 2301 21st Ave NE. A Rezoning Petition for property at 2301 21st Ave NE was approved unanimously by City Council. The property was rezoned from Medium Density Residential to Office and Institutional with the intention to construct a City park.

A resolution directing the street improvement project be undertaken for a Curb and Gutter Petition for property at 525 9th Ave NW was approved unanimously by council.
