Hickory City Council Meets, Mayor Pro Tem Sworn In, Annexations Approved
Hickory City Council met in regular session Tuesday night (December 6). Minutes, second readings, and the consent agenda were unanimously approved. Councilwoman Charlotte Williams was elected to serve as Mayor Pro Tempore for calendar year 2023. John Crone was appointed to serve as City Attorney for calendar year 2023.

A public hearing was held for the consideration of the voluntary non-contiguous annexation of property owned by the City of Hickory containing 172.1 acres. The annexation was approved by City Council. A public hearing was also held for the consideration of the voluntary contiguous annexation of 2.316 acres owned by McDonald Road Properties LLC. This item was also approved by City Council.
City Council also approved Phase II Development and purchase agreements with JRN Development to construct affordable housing on City-owned property. A presentation was given by Community Development Manager Karen Dickerson.
The Business Development Committee presented the 2022 Business. Well Crafted. Awards. The winners are Jay Brown, Chase Collins, Premier Screen Printing, Sabrina P. Cook CPA PLLC, Broome Associated Insurance, Hickory Furniture Mart, The Peanut House, US Conec Ltd, and David E. Looper and Company. Mayor Hank Guess presented a proclamation in recognition of the Hickory High School Boys Soccer Team 2022 State Champions.
